We are over the moon to share that WhatDo is a Fashion & Beauty Entrepreneur of the Year finalist for the 2021 Great British Entrepreneur Awards!
The competition – which received a record 4,800 entries this year – acknowledges the hard work and inspiring stories of entrepreneurs and businesses in the United Kingdom. The Fashion & Beauty Entrepreneur of the Year Award will be presented to the entrepreneur who stands out from the crowd, offering something new and unique to the market.
Commenting on the honour, WhatDo founder and CEO Lisha Rooney said: “We are so honoured to receive this recognition and to be a finalist. At its core, entrepreneurship is about solving problems, and we have learnt at WhatDo that the greatest opportunities often arise during adversities. While our primary focus is to provide comfortable clothing for those who have been suffering for far too long, as entrepreneurs, we also deem ourselves as change agents. We have a responsibility to educate the world on neurodiversity, autism, sensory sensitivities, and how we can preserve our planet.”
Founder of the Great British Entrepreneur Awards, Francesca James, said: “We have seen some incredible finalists over the years, and this year is no exception. It really is one of the strongest shortlists we’ve ever had, and the fact that so many exceptional people have applied during such a tough year is a testament to the resolve and entrepreneurial talent that exists across the UK.”
Anne Boden MBE, founder of Starling Bank, headline partner for the Awards, said: “The events of the past year have touched everyone, be it through the health of friends and family, the isolation of restrictions or the wider impact on our livelihoods. However, businesses are made of people, and it’s the incredible fortitude, determination and innovation of people like those shortlisted, that has helped our regions survive, and in some cases thrive.”
Launched in 2021, WhatDo is a sensory-friendly, carbon-neutral, diversity-positive clothing company which offers patented, tagless shirts made with inside-out seams, relaxed necklines, draped sleeves, and bamboo fabric which cater to individuals with sensory issues. One of the softest fabrics available, bamboo is hypoallergenic, antibacterial, antifungal, UV protected, biodegradable, and sustainable. The company is committed to being eco-friendly and maintains a 100% plastic-free policy. WhatDo celebrates neurodiversity and autism.
